There were multiple bidders and in the end it sold to Tara & Jessica Getty. I'm delighted to have been part of the effort that led to $850,000 being raised for communities in East and South Africa.
I really wanted to support a few charities that operate in Africa this year and had the opportunity to do it two ways: one by donating some of my art, and secondly by donating some money from the exhibition 'Facing Uncertainty' ticket sales and a percentage of my own sales.
'Art for Africa' New York approached a number of leading artists in the US, the UK and South Africa to donate some one of their pieces. I was approached earlier in the year, and immediately thought it fit in with my own plans to worthwhile organisations and causes that are entirely focussed on Africa. My piece was amongst some pretty big names - artists like Nan Goldin and Andy Warhol were featured - and this went into the live auction scheduled for November 17th in the New York auction house, Sotheby's.
